Enhanced Design Style

Announcing A New Fountain Bowl Design

In response to customers’ requests for a fountain that aggressive/playful cats won’t tip, for taller fountains and for the elimination of cord covers we have developed a new style of bowl.

Olriginal Style on Left, New, Enhanced Style on Right

In our original style the feedthrough, or cord grip, goes through the side of the bowl. the purpose of the cord grip is to permit relatively easy replacement of the pump when/if it ever goes, so the fountain can continue to be used indefinitely. It is permanently sealed in, is food safe and creates a completely watertight seal around the cord which lasts indefinitely. In the new style the feedthrough is in the bottom of the bowl, not the side.

Advantages & Disavantages

The advantages of the new design are that the bottom is comprised of an additional pound and a half of clay, greatly adding to the stability for those (apparently numerous) cats who like to tip their bowl. It is also taller (which many cat owners have asked for), and there is no additional piece (the cord cover) to clean, lose or break. The feedthrough is beneath the center piece, not through the back side, so is never seen except when cleaning.

The disadvantage of the new design is that it requires considerably more time to make, (about 45 min. per bowl in addition to all the other throwing, trimming etc.) and this, along with the extra materials (clay and glazes) compels us to raise the price on these fountains such that they are about $25 more than the original style.

We consider this new style to be superior to the original, however, we continue to make the original style as well, and both styles come in many different designs in different sizes and shapes.

Glazed Over 100% of the Fountain

We are now placing (almost all) the fountain bowls in the kiln on stilts after glazing the entire underside. Such a superior look and quality this gives.
